EU product identifier checker for Shopify (GTIN, S-PID, NS-PID)

The question: What do I need to add to this product so my EU parcels aren't held from 1 November 2026?

Answer five quick questions about one product and you'll get the exact identifiers Shopify needs for parcels to EU customers, or the declaration to switch on instead. Everything comes from Shopify's Help Center and Changelog (linked below). Where they don't say, the result says unknown.

1. Where is the parcel going, and from where?
2. Is the parcel worth €150 or less?
3. Is the product in one of the groups the EU exempts?

Shopify lists: unprocessed agricultural and perishable goods in HS chapters 01–15, certain handmade and artisanal goods, and antiques, collectibles, works of art, stamps and coins.

4. Does the product have a GTIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN barcode (for example printed on the packaging)?
5. How do you buy your shipping labels?

Check a barcode's check digit

Paste one barcode per line. This checks the length (8, 12, 13 or 14 digits) and the GS1 check digit. Shopify accepts a barcode saved with the Custom type only when it's a valid GTIN of 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits.

A valid check digit only proves the number is well formed. It doesn't prove the code is registered to your product. Never make up a barcode: a wrong code on a customs declaration is a false declaration.
