Clean up and standardise product tags
Goal
Messy tags break automated collections and filters. Get a single, consistent tag vocabulary.
Prompt to copy
Here is a list of every tag in my Shopify store with the count of products using each. Group tags that mean the same thing (case, plural, typos, synonyms). For each group propose one canonical tag. Return: Canonical tag | Variants to merge | Product count | Any automated collection that may depend on it (guess from the name, mark as a guess). Flag tags used on only one product.
Steps
- Export products and extract the Tags column (a spreadsheet pivot works).
- Run the prompt with tag + count list.
- Check which automated collections use each tag (Collections > conditions).
- Agree the canonical list before changing anything.
What to check
- Automated collection conditions are updated at the same time as tags.
- Tags used by apps (reviews, filters, shipping rules) are not removed.
Safety rating: Safe. This workflow only reads data and suggests changes. You decide what to apply.
