Restructure collections for SEO and navigation
Goal
Turn an organic sprawl of collections into a clear hierarchy that matches how people search.
Prompt to copy
Here are my current collections (title, handle, product count, type: manual/automated) and my top search queries from Search Console. Propose a collection structure: top-level categories, sub-collections, and which existing collections to merge, rename or retire. For each retired handle, give a redirect target. Keep handles short and keyword-led. Show the result as a tree, then a redirect table.
Steps
- Export collections list and Search Console queries (last 3 months).
- Run the prompt.
- Sanity-check the tree against your menu and best sellers.
- Implement in stages; add redirects (Online Store > Navigation > URL redirects) before deleting anything.
What to check
- Every retired URL has a redirect.
- High-traffic collections keep their handles.
- Menu links are updated.
Safety rating: Safe. This workflow only reads data and suggests changes. You decide what to apply.
