Generate image alt text for products
Goal
Improve accessibility and image search with accurate alt text.
Prompt to copy
For each product image I upload, write alt text under 125 characters describing what's actually visible, plus the product name and format. Don't start with 'image of'. If you're unsure what something is, say so instead of guessing. Return: Filename | Alt text.
Steps
- Download a batch of product images or use the AI's image upload.
- Run the prompt.
- Check a sample against the images.
- Paste into Shopify media alt fields or import via app.
What to check
- No hallucinated details in the images.
- Alt text isn't stuffed with keywords.
Safety rating: Risky. This workflow can change your store or contact people. Always preview the output, approve it explicitly, and keep a backup export.
